It is a neighborhood with hundreds of colorful, ornate gingerbread cottages. They are great fun to see and photograph. “The neighborhood has its roots in the religious revival camp meeting movement of the 1850s. Members of the campground – originally a tent community — conducted popular Bible meetings where the cottages are now.”(http://www.mvcma.org/)

Lovely Central Massachusetts

Walden Pond State Reservation

Walden Pond State Reservation is located in Concord, Massachusetts. Henry David Thoreau’s experiences there provided the material for his book “Walden.” His book and his legacy is why Walden Pond is considered the birthplace of the conservation movement.

Henry David Thoreau lived at Walden Pond from 1845 to 1847. The pond is open for swimming, walking around the pond, nature viewing, picnicking and reflecting. People can visit a replica of Thoreau’s one-room cabin.

Stop by the visitor center to find the gift shop, bookstore and gallery on the property. They have tours available as well as educational programs that you can sign up for. If you haven’t stopped in put it on the list, it is beautiful!

Bash Bish Falls

Bash Bish Falls is the most photographed waterfall in Massachusetts. It is located next to the Mount Washington State Forest.  Bash Bish Falls rambles through gorges and a hemlock ravine before it and drops about 60 feet into a sparkling pool.

You can visit the park daily from sunrise to one-half hour after sunset and access is free. The Bash Bish Falls is located next to the 4,169-acre Mount Washington State Forest which adjoins New York’s 5,000 acre Taconic State Park. If you like chasing waterfalls then this one is for you. But don’t forget your camera!

What to Wear

Spring in New England is quite variable, this is why I suggest you dress in layers – just in case. Wear shoes according to your plans. If you are going to hike wear hiking boots. The trails can be muddy in the springtime.

Why not plan a spring day trip or weekend? The weather is starting to change and it is a great time to get outside and explore. Energize your body, spirt and mind with some Spring travel. It does the body good!
