In 2007, approximately 150 bird species and 79 butterfly species were observed and documented. Fishing is also available for you at three different lakes. You can also fish from a 75 feet fishing pier out into the Mac Lake or bank fish. Remember, safety first, you must always use caution for alligators as well. Nancy and I did view a smaller alligator from this fishing pier.
When we came to see this specific alligator, we decided there was a better view from the side of the swamp. As we made our way around to the side all of a sudden there was a large splash and a small commotion in front of us.
We were standing back around 50 feet, a safe distance. Nancy and I never did figure out what the commotion was. But we definitely kept our distance and watched our surroundings closely.
This approximately 6 foot alligator got all the attention. They can camouflage themselves very well when they are covered with the algae from the top of the swamp.
