The Captain’s Daughter Restaurant

The Captain’s Daughter Restaurant

The Digby Neck, Nova Scotia area is well-known for their scallops, so Nancy and I began searching for the perfect restaurant.  While at Long island, we came across The Captain’s Daughter Restaurant and as you will see, we are thrilled that we did!

After taking a short Nova Scotia Ferry ride from Digby Neck, Nova Scotia over to Long Island, Nova Scotia we found the hidden gem!

In May 2018, Brooke Swift of Brier Island recently accepted a new challenge by taking over this popular restaurant. The restaurant was formerly known as Lavena’s Catch Cafe but under the new ownership the restaurant name has been changed to The Captain’s Daughter Restaurant.

The Captain’s Daughter name was inspired by Swift’s father, Mitchell Swift, who is a fisherman from Brier Island.  Swift is the boat captain of the Hunterbuck.

The Captain’s Daughter Restaurant is in a yellow building located across from the Brier Island Ferry.  The Restaurant address is 15 HWY 217, Freeport, Nova Scotia and they can be contacted at 1-902-839-2060.  The Restaurant is also available on Facebook at The Captain’s Daughter Restaurant.

As previously stated, Nancy and I are looking for a restaurant to enjoy some delicious Nova Scotia scallops.  We then came across the The Captain’s Daughter Restaurant.  We briskly walked into the restaurant with excitement and were quickly greeted by a waitress who graciously seated us.

After reviewing the menu, I opted for the seafood chowder and Nancy opted for the corn chowder.  We both ordered the baked scallop dinners, which are fairly priced.

While waiting for our food, I decided to take a look around the restaurant.  At the front entrance of the restaurant, I observed a seating area, a small bar and a whale watching reservation area.

As I walked past the bar, I walked into a cozy room, which also offered plenty of comfortable seating.  The room is decorated with beautiful miscellaneous items for sale on the walls.

While checking out the restaurant, I noticed our food is being served at our table.  Both the seafood chowder and the corn chowder are delicious!  The chowder is also served with delicious warm buttered rolls.  The buttered rolls are amazingly tasty!

The time had now come for the meal’s main course and the broiled scallops are served.  The restaurant definitely serves generous portions and let me tell you our meals are amazingly delicious!!!

Upon finishing our meal and paying the bill, we commented to our waitress that we would see her again tomorrow for lunch.  The Captain’s Daughter Restaurant is a fabulous restaurant to enjoy some perfectly prepared seafood chowder and scallops!!

The following day, we returned to The Captain Daughter’s Restaurant for lunch.  Nancy opted for the seafood chowder and I opted for the lobster roll. Again, we are both pleased with our delicious food and great service!!

If you are in the Digby Neck, Nova Scotia area, both Nancy and I highly recommend you take a short ferry ride over to Long Island.  Where you can enjoy a fabulous meal at The Captain Daughter’s Restaurant! Trust us, you will be thrilled that you made the trip to eat at this five-star restaurant!!!

The lobster on the plaque was caught by my father George Crocker. It weighed 19 lb at the time. The Cafe was Lavena’s Catch Cafe for 18 yrs. Geirge is Lavena’s father. The boat above is “The Georgie Porgie” and was Georgie’s lobster boat.
The Captains Daughter is an awesome place to eat. Always fresh seafood with homemade desserts !
I’m so glad the big yellow building is still going strong!
