We have spent the last twelve nights in Canada, finding the most amazing things to do in epic Nova Scotia. What a whirlwind!!!
This adventure has been so busy! At the same time, the adventure has been super fun and exciting. We did not have any nights planned except for our last four nights in Digby, Nova Scotia.
This trip was on our bucket list for at least the last ten years. We wanted to visit epic Nova Scotia but went to Bar Harbor , Maine, which was awesome. Again, we wanted to go to Nova Scotia, we went to New Jersey. The trip was amazing!
Finally, we traveled to Nova Scotia and we wanted to see it all! We planned very little in advance. As we shared above, only the last four nights were planned in Digby, Nova Scotia. The rest of our nights were very spontaneous. We would book on the road, as we got closer to our destination.
Nancy and I did have a general game plan of places we wanted to stop but other than that it was very unplanned. This was very different for me. We usually plan everything in advance and know exactly what we are doing and when.
Although this was nice, we wish we had more information, so we will share our experience adventure travel tips with all of you.
The first day, we left a little after noon and drove for approximately six hours. Once we passed through the Canadian border, we began our search on www.booking.com for a place to hotel/motel to relax at after our first day of our Canada/Nova Scotia adventure.
We ended up at the comfortable Scoodic Motel in Saint Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada. This motel was a great first stop! Breakfast was included and each room had a fridge. This allowed us to empty out our cooler and freeze our ice packs. A perfect start to our next traveling day!!
Now, we did not have to purchase more ice, a big plus! The motel breakfast was a continental breakfast but it was great. The staff was super friendly and we would definitely stay there again!!
We set out the next morning for the amazing Bay of Fundy. After driving several hours, we reached the Hopewell Rocks Motel. The Hopewell Rocks Motel is located right next to the Bay Of Fundy National Park.
We couldn’t have asked for a better located place to spend the night! After exploring the Bay Of Fundy at low tide, we went back several hour later to check it out at high tide. We will share more Bay of Fundy details in a future blog.
The next day, we traveled through Moncton and enjoyed Magnetic Hill as well as the Moncton Hill Winery. Magnetic Hill, a popular tourist attraction since the 1930’s, is a great spot!
You drive your car down a hill and the “Magnetic Pull” pulls it back up. This is very interesting for children and adults alike. The Magnetic Hill is located at 50 Magic Mountain Blvd., Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Check it out!
Moncton also is home to Magic Mountain and the Magnetic Hill Zoo, Magic Mountain is mainly a water park and part of the Magnetic Hill tourist site. The park is known for being the largest man-made tourist attraction in Atlantic Canada. (Wikipedia).
The Magnetic Hill Zoo is also a part of the Magnetic Hill tourist site. The Zoo has over 400 animals, making it the largest zoo in Atlantic, Canada. (Wikipedia). We decided not to include the zoo in our adventure, due to time constrictions with our travel adventure.
Our next stop was the Magnetic Hill Winery. This winery had many delicious wines to choose from. We did some wine-tastings before purchasing some wine. Although we couldn’t stay at this winery too long though, we needed to continue our travel to amazing Prince Edward Island.
At Prince Edward Island, we resided at the Island Life Cottages. The Cottages was about ten minutes from the Prince Edward Island National Park. Nancy and I stayed at the Island Life Cottages for two nights.
We had the best lobster dinner at New Glasgow Lobster Suppers, which was featured on “You Gotta Eat Here” on the Food Network. The restaurant meal included free double appetizers along with the main course meal and dessert. Make sure you bring your appetite!
The New Glasgow Lobster Suppers is located at #604 Route 258 New Glasgow, Prince Edward Island. For more information, you can visit their website at www.peilobstersuppers.com.
We highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the Prince Edward Island area!! The food was absolutely amazingly cooked and delicious!!!
Next we traveled to the lower part of the Cabot Trail. We stayed in the Iona Heights Motel in Iona, Nova Scotia. This motel was a great place to rest our heads. Our room also had a balcony with a great view!
We had a comfortable and spacious room on the second floor that looked out to Bras d’Or Lake. Nancy and I stayed one night, before heading out for the beautiful Cabot Trail in the morning.
The Cabot Trail is truly a beautiful scenic drive. Cabot Trail is located around Cape Breton and the trail can be explored in a quick four to five hours or a two-day event. This depends on your travel schedule.
We chose to explore the Cabot Trail for four to five hours before heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia for three nights.
Nancy and I arrived in Halifax late in the evening because we figured this would give us a full three days to explore the city. Knowing we were already there, we enjoyed our stay in the beautiful city. We will be sharing more on amazing Halifax in a future blog.
Nancy and I did take one day and travel from Halifax to visit Peggy’s Cove Preservation Area. Peggy’s Cove beauty is one of the top ten most photographed places in Canada! We will be sharing more about our lengthy visit at picturesque Peggy’s Cove in a future blog.
After leaving Halifax, we drove to Digby. We had planned to stay for four days at the Whale Cove Campground and Inn. This was the last leg of our adventure before our return home.
The Whale Cove Campground and Inn was a beautiful campground with stunning sunsets over the Bay of Fundy. We will be sharing more on the Whale Cove Campground and Inn in a future blog.
After a wonderful time in the Digby area. Nancy and I decided to take The CAT from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to Portland, Maine. In doing this, we were able to cut off several hours of commuting time home.
We would highly recommend taking the CAT!! Nancy and I will be sharing more about our CAT experiences in a future blog.
Our Canada and Nova Scotia traveling adventure was absolutely amazing!! We traveled a long distance around Canada and epic Nova Scotia to share these adventures. Nancy and I truly hope all of you enjoyed our adventure!!
We will share in-depth in our future blogs about the Bay of Fundy, Cabot Trail, Halifax, Peggy’s Cove, Digby Nova Scotia, The Whale Cove Campground and Inn, Long Island Nova Scotia, and Brier Island Nova Scotia. Stay Tuned!!
At the end of our adventure and with traveling so many miles this summer, we were very happy to return home safely. Nancy and I enjoyed our time together with all of you and we look forward to many years of traveling together!!
Happy Travels!

Magnetic Hill sounds so cool!!
It was a quick stop but really interesting for all in the car. To have the car roll backwards uphill was very strange and fun. So Cool!
