Learn More About Beautiful Falmouth Jamaica

Royal Caribbean Harmony Of The Seas – Falmouth, Jamaica

I hope you had an opportunity to read our Labadee, Haiti blog because now it is time to learn more about beautiful Falmouth Jamaica! Our second port stop, on the Royal Caribbean Harmony Of The Seas cruise, was this beautiful island.

Falmouth is the chief town and capital of the parish of Trelawny in Jamaica. It is situated on Jamaica’s north coast 18 miles east of Montego Bay. It is noted for being one of the Caribbean’s best-preserved Georgian towns. (Wikipedia)

Founded by Thomas Reid in 1769, Falmouth flourished as a market centre and port for forty years at a time when Jamaica was the world’s leading sugar producer.  It was named after FalmouthCornwall in the United Kingdom, the birthplace of Sir William Trelawny, the Governor of Jamaica, who was instrumental in its establishment.  (Wikipedia)

The town was meticulously planned from the start, with wide streets in a regular grid, adequate water supply, and public buildings. It even had piped water before New York City.  (Wikipedia)

A new $180 million port was built to accommodate the newest and largest cruise ships, including Royal Caribbean International‘s Oasis class. The port opened in early 2011.  (Wikipedia)

Falmouth was the site of the opening ceremony for the ICC 2007 Cricket World Cup. The ceremony was held in the newly constructed Greenfield Stadium about 3 miles from the town centre.  (Wikipedia)

Blue Waters Beach Club

During our stop in Falmouth, we spent the day at the Blue Waters Beach Club.  The Blue Waters Beach Club was not the most beautiful beach, the day we visited, however, the Jamaican staff made our visit and my 50th Birthday very special!

The Beach Club had lounge chairs and Cabanas along the beach.  Umbrellas were also available for a $10 fee.  We were told the Cabanas were available for $60.

We found the beach to be fine.  The lounge chairs were comfortable and we never felt like we were going to lose our personal belongings.  Once we were situated, I negotiated a full body massage for Nancy.  I was able to get Nancy the massage from a Jamaican masseuse for $30/half hour.  I then left to get some amazing drinks at the beach bar.

The beach bar was nicely set up with specialty non-alcohol and alcohol drinks posted on the side of a building.  This made it especially easy to make our beverage choice.  The Jamaican bartender was friendly and he made some fantastic drinks!

A Memorable 50th Birthday Celebration – Jamaica Style

We also enjoyed live entertainment next to the beach bar.  There were 2 DJs  (Smurf and Red Hat) who helped me celebrate my 50th to the fullest.  The DJs decided to set up a chair on the beach and give me a birthday shot of a Jamaican cocktail concoction, which I believe was a rum/tequila mix.  Needless to say I was smiling and fully enjoying the day!!

After enjoying the live entertainment for some time, Nancy was summonsed by the masseuse.  I walked down to the massage area, which was located right on the beach.

The massage area was nicely set up with approximately 4 masseuses giving massages to beach customers.  Now that Nancy had some time to relax it was time for me to walk the beach.

As I walked toward the end of the beach, I observed a Jamaican man selling wooden carved items.  I did have an opportunity to speak with him regarding his work.  The Jamaican man was friendly and a true businessman.

Before leaving the beach vendor, I did take a photograph of the Jamaican flag which was flying beside his vendor area.  He wished me well and I walked back to the bar area where I was met by a much more relaxed Nancy.

We purchased the all-inclusive package which provided transportation to the beach, entrance fee to the beach, a beach lounge chair, a Jamaican buffet style lunch, and premium drinks and beer.

A Great Jamaican Lunch

Time for lunch! At lunch, we enjoyed jerked chicken, Jamaican curry stew, salads, pork kabobs, fruits, and desserts.

Nancy and I found the lunch to be enjoyable.  We also really enjoyed the Jamaican singer, who provided everyone with some great music while we all enjoyed our Jamaican-style lunch.

We decided to enjoy the bar area for some time before leaving the beach and heading back to the ship.  Once we were back at the port area, we were able to shop in some Jamaican stores before returning to the ship.

We Love Jamaica

Our overall day in Jamaica was amazing.  We found the Jamaican people to be very friendly and Jamaica itself to be beautiful.  Yes, we can now say, “We love Jamaica!”
