How To Enjoy Yourself When You Can’t Travel

How To Enjoy Yourself When You Can’t Travel

Most of us are itching to get out into the world this year and travel to far off places away from home; but sadly for many of us this isn’t possible. Travelling is good for the soul, and it is a way for us to explore and experience a whole world of things we wouldn’t be able to at home.

So how to enjoy yourself when you can’t travel?

Well, all is not lost and many of us can still have some amazing experiences this autumn and winter without travelling far from home.

Today, we are going to talk about some of the ways you can get out and enjoy yourself even when you can’t travel abroad.

All of these ideas will not be for everyone. We’re all living in different areas of the world with different climates. In addition to Covid-19 restrictions.

Consider A Road Trip

One of the main issues with travel, during this global pandemic, is the fact that we can’t go away with people from other households. But there are lots of singles travel options and solo options you can try, to get out of the house and enjoy yourself in the coming months.

One idea is to take a road trip from home and think about enjoying those hidden gems you’ve never explored before. You’ll be surprised how many amazing places there are close to home once you start looking.

Take A Tent Out

If you love being in the great outdoors and the cold weather doesn’t bother you, consider taking a tent to a national park close to home and staying for a few nights. You’ll be able to enjoy the silence of nature for a couple of days and you will likely have some lovely experiences during your stay. It will be a vast change of pace from your life at home and this could be exactly what you need to recharge those batteries during the pandemic.

Find Hidden Gems

You’ll be surprised how many hidden gems you find close to home when you really start to look closer and explore. Take the time to research your town or city and the surrounding areas and ask locals where their favourite places are.

There are often small features, activities and locations that people don’t know about unless they find out from someone via word of mouth. Discovering new places can be amazing and it will make you feel as if you are travelling to exotics lands without ever leaving your area code.

Look For Local Events

There are always small local events that you can join such as Halloween trails, Christmas markets and even outdoor cinemas. Local communities often put on events throughout the year and you may have never taken part in any of these things. If that is the case, but sure to look out for local events and see what you can get yourself involved in this winter.

Enjoy Your Hometown

You may have grown up in your hometown or perhaps you moved from somewhere else, and you likely know where all of the supermarkets and amenities are when you need them; but do you know about the restaurants, bars, events and activities on offer?

Most of us travel further away to take part in fun events or go for a meal, but often there are lovely places right at home that we can take advantage of. Be sure this year that you take into account your hometown and be a tourist in your own neighbourhood.

Go For A Walk

If you are struggling for ideas of how to spend your days when you are stuck in lockdown, why not get out of the house for a while and go for a walk? You don’t have to drive to a park or a countryside location to go for a walk: simply set off from your own house and take a walk through your local streets and visit local parks. There are so many places you can go and the beauty is that if it starts to rain you’ll never be too far from home!

Enjoy A Picnic

If you are looking for a fun way to get out of the house and enjoy some fresh air this week, consider taking a picnic to a local park. You can make things such as sandwiches, pasta salads, cupcakes, biscuits and more. Bring a bottle of wine and a couple of plastic wine glasses and you’ll have the perfect sunset activity to enjoy with your partner and your children this week.

Stay At Home

What can you do when you can’t travel? Make fun at home. There are so many activities you can enjoy this winter without even leaving your own house. We know that it’s great to be able to travel; however staying at home can sometimes be just as fun.

Spend the day baking with the kids, watch movies in the dark, enjoy some crafting and artwork. There are many amazing ways to make the most of being at home, so make that your mission this year.

Have A Barbecue

We know that the weather is getting colder and winter is almost here; but that doesn’t stop you from getting the barbecue out on a sunny day! If anything, winter might be a better time to enjoy those barbecue classics like sticky barbecue ribs and warming beef burgers. Enjoy the heat from the fire and set up your chairs with blankets for the perfect winter afternoon at home with your family.

Visit A Spa

For a quiet and relaxing weekend away from home without travelling too far, a spa weekend is ideal. You’ll be able to spend the weekend enjoying relaxing treatments such as massages, facials and the sauna. Not only would it be a great way to wind down and have fun, but it will recharge your mental and physical batteries for the weeks ahead.

In closing, there are lots of amazing things you can do this winter to keep yourself occupied and having fun, and we hope that this list will give you some great ideas and inspiration this month on how to enjoy yourself when you can’t travel.
