Is the Grand Teton National Park on your bucket list? First off, the majestic Grand Teton National Park is located in the northwest U.S. state of Wyoming. The epic Teton mountain range is a popular summer destination for mountaineering, hiking, backcountry camping and fishing. This beautiful destination is also linked to the Yellowstone National Park.
Nancy and I entered through the Wyoming south entrance. We were absolutely amazed at the stunning beauty of the Teton’s mountain range. As we drove by the mountain range, we briefly stopped to get a closer look. Here, we admired the mountain range glaciers and the beautiful running waterfalls rolling down the mountains so perfectly.
A Perfect Viewing Experience
Is there anything else to observe at the Grand Teton National Park? A U.S. Highway 89 drive will bring you between the town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Yellowstone’s southernmost entrance. During your travel, you will find many pull-over areas with gorgeous views of the peaks beyond the Snake River and Jackson Lake.
The southeastern corner of the national park offers some of the best wildlife viewing experiences. Here, you will observe beaver, otters, and moose around the area. A stop at the Schwabacher’s Landing on the Snake River will bring you bison, antelope, and elk viewings. Are you looking for historical relics? The park offers the photogenic Mormon Barns and the log-cabin-style Chapel of the Transfiguration in the Menors Ferry Historic District.
As you travel farther north, you can visit beautiful Jackson Lake. Here, you can enjoy paddle sports, water skiing, sailing, and windsurfing. Boat Rentals, scenic cruises, and guided fishing trips are also available at Colter Bay Marina.
A Wide Variety Of Hiking Adventures
Are you up for an amazing hiking adventure? The Grand Teton’s mountainous western half road is the place to hike. Here, you will find more than 230 miles of trails with varying degrees of difficulty. Easy difficulty hiking trails include an easy stroll through the Lake District along the Lupine Meadow Trail and Taggart Lake Trail (approximately 7 miles one way) is relative flat and easy with some amazing views.
Many Amazing Photograph Opportunities
As you can see the the Grand Teton National Park offers an endless array of adventure. From the 13,770-foot Grand Teton to picturesque Jenny and Jackson Lakes. By the way, your photo opportunities are endless. The close to 500-square-mile park also contains a wide range of wildlife. Here, you will enjoy bears, grizzlies, moose, antelope, and bison.
Please note, if you are looking to check off another national park during your visit, you can travel a few miles north to Yellowstone National Park, which as previously stated adjoins Grand Tetons. You’ll save $10 on your combined admission.
Grand Teton National Park Safety
As you have all heard before, a visit to the Grand Teton National Park can be an amazing experience for all ages, but it’s always important to take safety precautions. For instance, hiking is one of the most popular park activities, hikers should alway hike the trails in groups or pairs. Hiking alone is never recommended.
What to bring for hiking gear? All hikers should arrive with adequate footwear, plenty of drinking water, and extra clothing. Depending on the trail conditions, you may want to consider bringing ice picks, crampons, and traction devices.
During your visit, it’s likely you may encounter black and grizzly bears. During the peak season, the park offers a recommended 30-minute ranger-led bear safety course. Here rangers will cover topics like how to store your food and the usage of bear spray. The rangers also do ask that you report any bear sighting at either the visitor center or ranger station.
Who doesn’t love water sports? Please remember before you hit the water, check the posted advisories on the flow rates and caution areas. You will find these at the ranger stations or visitor centers, or by calling the hotline @ 1-800-658-5771. Yes, they also suggest always wearing life jackets. Bringing along waterproof containers with extra clothing and a first-aid kit are also highly recommended.
