Looking to learn more about amazing Utah Zion National Park? Read below.
We were driving down the highway, enjoying the warmth of the sun through our convertible Jeep Rental, on a 90 degree day with very few clouds in the sky. A beautiful day for a drive. As James and I were headed down to Las Vegas, Nevada from Colorado we passed through Utah, we had visited Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park in Utah.
Zion National Park
During our travels we heard great things about amazing Zion National Park and decided to add it into our trip itinerary before heading the rest of the way to Las Vegas. James and I drove through Zion National Park, starting in the town of Springdale, Utah. In Springdale, there was ample lodging for spending more time and enjoying all Zion has to offer. The town of Springdale was also very quaint with a few restaurants, coffee shops and small retail shops.
In Zion National Park, there is many opportunities for biking, canyoneering, backpacking, rafting, rock climbing, sunsets and stargazing. Some of these activities require a permit, however, many people enjoy hiking. Angels Landing being the most popular for experienced hikers and for the thrill seekers.
The Angels Landing hike is a 5.2 mile extremely challenging hike with an amazing view. But it is not for the faint of heart, people do fall to their deaths each year. If this is for you, please do some researching prior to visiting Angels Landing! For more information visit this website and use their Search Like a Local tab@ http://www.utah.com
Exploring Zion National Park
During our Zion National Park visit, we traveled through Zion starting at the South entrance and finishing at the East entrance. At which point, we turned around and drove back to Springdale. It was cool seeing Zion National Park both ways.
The Springdale (South entrance) has a shuttle that runs from Spring to Fall. This route is the only way travel on the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. During your travel, you will find Zion Lodge, the Emerald Pools Trail, The Grotto, Angels Landing, Weeping Rock, and the Temple of Sinawava.
Another route is the Zion – Mount Carmel Highway which connects the South and East entrances of the park. This is the road that we traveled. We were very impressed with this route, I can only imagine what the scenic drive was like!!
Zion National Park Camping
Zion National Park has three campgrounds within the Park. There is South Campground, Watchman Campground and The Lava Point Campground. Reservations are recommended for these sites in advance as the campgrounds are usually full every night. Zion National Park is open 24 hours a day/7days a week. Although some of their services and facilities may close or have different hours during different times of the year.

“Follow the paths where ancient native people and pioneers walked. Gaze up at massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink, and red that soar into a brilliant blue sky. Experience wilderness in a narrow slot canyon. Zion’s unique array of plants and animals will enchant you as you absorb the rich history of the past and enjoy the excitement of present day adventures.” (www.nps.gov)
