Palisades is the wine country of Colorado. It is located in the western central part of the state. They are known for their peaches and their wine.
There were twenty wineries on the internet site that I googled. So we had to narrow things down. We couldn’t visit all twenty wineries/vineyards in an afternoon.
We didn’t have the time as well as the ability to imbibe that much wine. Jim and I needed to make a plan. So I went to each website of the different wineries and looked at the different types of wines that they produce to see which ones would be a good fit for our palates.
We enjoy sweeter wines so I was looking for wineries/vineyards that produce fruit wine and the sweeter grape wines. This left us with still too many places to visit! Next was to look at the map of wineries that we wanted to visit and see how close they were to each other.
After going to a few tastings we didn’t want to be driving farther than we needed to. Also, most wineries close between 4 & 6 pm and we were going to be traveling a few more hours before stopping for the night.
Like most wine areas there are ways to visit the different wineries without driving yourself around. There are limos, shuttle vans or horse-drawn carriages that can tour you around the area. We did decide to do our own personal tour since we were looking for a certain type of wine tasting experience.
The first winery that we stopped at was Grande River Vineyards. They planted there first vines in 1987. They have had time to get the process down to a science.
Grande River Vineyards was also the fifth licensed winery in the state of ‘Colorado. For more information on Grand River Vineyards check out there website at: https://www.granderivervineyards.com
Next was St. Kathryn Cellars. They are located in the building right in front of Grande River and next to Talon Winery. St. Kathryn Cellars has a very extensive list of wines for the tasting.
Many of them are fruit wines which is right up our alley. One of my favorites was Apple Blossom. It was so good-by itself and even better warmed with some mulling spices.
When we visited they had a crock pot heated up with the warmed Apple Blossom and mulling spices. We enjoyed our time at St. Kathryn Cellars very much. For more information check out their website @ https://www.talonwinebrands.com
Our third stop was Talon Winery which shares the building with St. Kathryn Cellars. Talon Winery has their own tasting bar. When we arrived at their bar a horse-drawn carriage had just dropped off several guests for a tasting so it was a busy place.
We met some nice people as they were finishing up their tasting, while waiting for ours to start. They also had a crock warming with a mulled wine. They had some nice wines as well. It was a great stop with like-minded people. Their website is located @ https://www.talonwinebrands.com
Our forth stop was Varaison Vineyards and Winery. At Varaison you do not just get a tasting, you get an education about the wines and the way to drink the wine.
We had such a great time with the server she was very knowledgeable and friendly. They also have weekend events in the fall. For more information check out their website at: https://www.varaisonvineyards.com
Next to last was Colterris Winery. We enjoyed our wine on the Colterris outdoor patio looking at the Mesa. We did a Facebook live video from here as well.
The location was very pretty with the Mesa in the background and the vineyard in front of it. For more information on Colterris Winery click their link @ https://www.colterris.com
Our last stop was Colorado Cellars. It was almost closing time and our host was so gracious. We tried many yummy wines at this stop.
Colorado Cellars is a family business. From tending the vines, harvesting, fermenting, bottling, selling and transporting. To read more about Colorado Cellars go to: https://coloradocellars.com
There are definitely many more stops that we could have made but that will have to be for our next adventure. As you know, everywhere we go I’m always looking to try some new wines. These six vineyards/wineries were a great addition to our Colorado adventure!
Salute!!!
