Paradise Hills Vineyard- Connecticut

Paradise Hills Vineyard- Connecticut

What is the History of the Beautiful Paradise Hills Vineyard? The dream began with a conversation that Richard had with his brother Albert. Approximately, one day 30 years ago, while making wine in the family basement.  After that conversation, Richard would begin his hunt for that perfect spot, for their family owned vineyard and winery.  Here, the adventure began.

A Picturesque Vineyard

The location they found in Wallingford, Connecticut was perfect.  Their business is located on Wind Swept Hill Road.  Above all, Wind Swept Hill is a cul-de-sac and a beautiful location for the Paradise Hills Vineyard.  Certainly, you will instantly fall in love with this location!

The Ruggiero brothers were making wine for 15 years in Hamden, CT.  Here, they learned about growing grapes in Connecticut and fine tuned their wine making skills.  In addition, you are going to love their wines!

Paradise Hills Vineyard History

They began entering their amateur wines in competitions and won many awards/accolades.  During this time, they were also supplying many Connecticut farm wineries with their quality grapes.

The Ruggiero brothers purchased the property on Wind Swept Hill Road in 1996.  The property is nestled among 65 Acres of rolling hills along the Washington Trail and open year round.  An absolutely beautiful location.

In 1997, they set out their plans for the vineyard.  Keeping with their commitment to provide quality and sustainable farming, they created their vineyard.  No small task!

During this early phase of the vineyard, Richard and Albert continued to grow their own grapes.  They also continued to supply other local farm wineries with their grapes.  In addition, Paradise Hills Vineyard would make small wine batches as well.

Today, the Paradise Hills Vineyard and Winery has several varieties of wine grapes including:  Seyval Blanc, Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc, Chambourcin, Vignoles, Tramenet, and Cayuga.  heThe condition of the soil and climate are ideal for producing exceptional grapes.

“With the goal of producing small quality of excellent wine from our own grapes to be sold primarily out of the winery the Ruggiero family continues to control all aspects of our wine making from grape to bottling.” (ParadiseHillsVineyard.com)

Paradise Hills Vineyard Introduces a Winery Tasting Room

In 2011, they opened their Tuscan Inspired Winery Tasting Room.  The tasting room was handcrafted by the Ruggiero family and it’s absolutely beautiful!  Upon building the winery and tasting room, the Ruggiero family used as many renewable technologies as possible.

“A geothermal heating and cooling system was incorporated in the building along with many recyclable products.  You will find yourself enjoying your wine tasting at a handcrafted copper bar, surrounded by chandeliers and mahogany tables, which provide a romantic setting to enjoy with friends and family as you take in the beautiful Connecticut countryside. The winery was designed to be a relaxing place where you could feel at home relaxing with a glass of wine and enjoying the company of your guests.” (ParadiseHillsVineyard.com)

During our visit, we had a very energetic wine server.  He was very attentive and very excited to share what Paradise Hills had to offer.  We enjoyed our server so much we took a selfie with him!!!
