Animal Adventures – A Hidden Gem

Animal Adventures – A Hidden Gem

Our recent move has Jim and I exploring our new city surroundings.  Today, we visited amazing Animal Adventures, which is located at 336 Sugar Road in Bolton, MA.

Animal Adventure is a rescue center and family zoo.  The founders and primary owners are Ed and Brenda Laquidara.  They have been working with animals their entire life, starting with farm animals and exotic animals.

In 1997, they opened the rescue center and made their passion a full-time career.   The rescue center takes in animals that owners can no longer care for, house or keep.

They will re-home the animals when possible, send them to other facilities, or keep them for educational programs.  Animal Adventures re-homes between 500-1,000 animals per year.

Animal Adventures also rescues abandoned, orphaned and neglected animals.  They provide the animals with a quality life while sharing them in their educational programs to inspire and educate.

When Jim and I visited today, we observed a room for birthday parties, so you can have a party here as well.

They also go to schools, campgrounds, fairs/festivals, scout meetings and do fundraisers.  Plus they even have summer camps.   Summer camps are for Pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.

The campers are introduced to the animals.  They learn where each animal comes from, what each animal eats and how to hold them.  Animal Adventures has roughly 400 animals and 200 different species.

The camp day is split up into two sessions.  The 9 am session is for ages 5 to 12 years of age and the afternoon session is for ages 13+ yrs are from 1 pm – 4 pm.

Jim and I did a self guided tour but there is plenty of staff around to ask questions.  We were approached by at least three workers as we made our way around Animal Adventures to see if we had any questions.  Jim and I both felt very welcome and appreciated for visiting.

We could also see that the staff cares about the animals by the way the animals are relaxed around them. Every time, I did ask a question they were quick to stop what they were doing and answer me, as well as tell me the animal’s name and give further information.

Animal Adventures does offer private tours, after hours private tours, extreme tours, after hours extreme tours as well as an extreme tour with the owner.  The tours are broken down on their website:  https://animaladventuresboltonma.webs.com

We were able to sit through a half hour presentation.  They hold presentations three times a day at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.  We were introduced to 5 different animals.

The Staff Member explained where the animal was from, the animal’s name, what it likes to eat and other cool info.  We got to meet and touch a chinchilla, a bearded dragon, king snake, ferret, and an alligator.  There were approximately twenty other visitors at the presentation with us.

The presenter was very gracious to every one who asked a question and answered it very professionally.  The presentation is geared more for a younger crowd but the adults were also engaged during the presentation.  We all want our kids to experience new things and you could easily spend half a day at Animal Adventures.
There is also a play area for the little ones when they get restless and also a picnic area.  They only sell water and small bags of chips but you can certainly pack a lunch and enjoy it there.  You can also leave for lunch and comeback later simply by using your wristband.
I especially loved the bunnies.  It reminded me of one I had one growing up.  You can climb in the pen with them and pat them.  The bunnies are pretty relaxed as long as you move slow.
We enjoyed our visit to Animal Adventures very much.  They could use all the support they can get from the surrounding communities.   Animal Adventures is not state or federally funded, therefore cash donations are very much appreciated.
What shocked me is they have been around so long and I never knew they existed.  I would have loved to have visited them throughout the years when my children were younger.  All donations, go toward improvements to the center, not payroll or facility expenses.
They also have a list of items that you may donate, if you would like to make a donation when you visit or if you feel moved to donate after your visit.  Of course, you can donate on their website as well.
If you are looking for an amazing family friendly place to visit, Animal Adventures is available anytime of the year! Animal Adventures will be a great stop for you!!
Enjoy!!
