We just got home from a whirlwind trip. One of our stops was at Crystal Rock Campground in Sandusky Ohio. Jim and I found it to be a real gem!
Beautiful Crystal Rock Campground is located just minutes from Cedar Point Amusement Park and the Lake Erie Islands, including Put-In-Bay and Kelleys Island! They are located just off State Route 6 at 710 Crystal Rock Road, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
Owners Tom and Judy purchased the campground on April 25, 2013. The former name of their campground was Crystal Caves KOA.
Since their purchase of the campground, the cabins have been renovated with new flooring and walls. Also, new porches were added to the cabin approximately two years ago. The campground currently has one hundred seventy-three camping sites and twelve cabins.
We arrived right as the store was closing for the day. The owners, Tom and Judy, were so very nice and helpful. As they were checking us in they gave us all kinds of information about the area and things to do.
We left the office with wood, ice, and the key to our sleeping cabin for three nights. It was so nice to be on a mattress after being on an air mattress for three nights. The air conditioning was wonderful too.
Not far from the office was our cabin. Upon opening the door we got a blast of cool air from the A/C. It felt so good after our six-hour drive to Sandusky, OH. Our cabin was equipped with one double bed and a bunk bed, which can sleep four.
There is also a shelf for some belongings, a refrigerator, and microwave. This was a very simple cabin but the cabin was perfect for our needs! We also had a fire ring with a grill rack over it and picnic table.
The campground also offers rustic cabins which can accommodate four, five, or six people. Each cabin is air-conditioned and contains a small refrigerator and microwave.
The four-person cabin, which we enjoyed, has a full size bed and single bunks. The five-person cabin has a full size bed and three single bunks. The six-person cabin has two full beds and two single bunks. The campground asks that you bring your own bedding as linens are not provided.
Each cabin has a covered deck, picnic table, fire ring, and two deck chairs. The cabins are beautifully located a short distance from the shower/restroom area, store, and children playground area.
We were close enough to catch a beautiful sunset on Lake Erie. We took some time to explore the beautiful campground. The campground also features Free Hot Showers, Clean Restrooms, Laundry Facilities, and Pull-Thru Sites.
Community charcoal grills are located nearby at the pavilion. There is also a community fire pit with a large grill for group cookouts and an outdoor dish washing station for your convenience.
The campground also offer a 24 hour cash honor system for wood and ice. This area is located behind the store and very convenient for campers looking for these items after the camp store is closed.
We did utilize these services on a daily basis. The ice and wood were reasonably priced and the convince to pay as you go was a real treat!
The campground is truly a family friendly, with lots of room for kids to be kids. They have a large playground for swinging and climbing, and a big sandbox for imaginations to build castles and construction sites. There’s plenty of space to ride bikes or scooters, or just run and play!
Their recreation hall has table tennis, arcade games, air hockey, skee ball, foos ball, and a pool table. They also have sand volleyball and cornhole.
Throughout the camping season, kids can also enjoy events like hayrides or a jaunt around the campground in their Crystal Rock Fire Department Fire Truck!
We truly enjoyed our stay and were honestly saddened to leave the Crystal Rock Campground! The owners were again very friendly and helpful during our stay.
We would definitely recommend this beautiful campground if you are staying in the Sandusky or Cedar Point, OH area, you will be glad you did! Happy Camping!!!
