The following photographs were taken at Newburyport, MA, one of our favorite summer vacation spots, after the powerful 2018 New England Nor’easter.
Newburyport is a small coastal, scenic, and historic city in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States, 35 miles (56 km) northeast of Boston. A historic seaport with a vibrant tourism industry, Newburyport includes part of Plum Island. The mooring, winter storage and maintenance of recreational boats, motor and sail, still contribute a large part of the city’s income. A Coast Guard station oversees boating activity, especially in the swift tidal currents of the Merrimack River. (Wikipedia).
Our favorite beach and scenic spot is adjoined to Newburyport, MA, the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. Parker River National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1942 primarily to provide feeding, resting, and nesting habitats for migratory birds. Located along the Atlantic Flyway, the refuge is of vital stopover significance to waterfowl, shorebirds, and songbirds during migratory periods. (Wikipedia).
We especially enjoy the beach, which seems to be endless. The beach beauty and tranquility is second to none. The beach has limited parking and is never overcrowded.
The cost is five dollars per carload to enter the Refuge, for more information about the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, please go to our Wineries and Beach Break post, which was posted on February 2, 2018.
