Today, we had the pleasure of visiting the Allegro Wine Shoppe in Strasburg, PA. The shoppe was such a quaint little shop with very enthusiastic and friendly staff.
When we arrived, there were guest at the counter having a tasting. We squeezed in between the other couples and started to look over the tasting list.
As you probably know by now, both Jim and I love sweet wine. There was a large selection to choose from so we each picked five different wines. This way we could taste a total of ten wines.
In most wineries and vineyards, when you purchase a tasting you get to keep the glasses that you use. Their glasses were a very nice keepsakes of our travel through Amish Country .
Our friendly and knowledgable hostesses during our visit were Casey Weiner and Manager Pamela Gossard.
For our tasting we tried , their Sweet Fruit wines: Funk (Cranberry), Karaoke (Pear & Cayuga grape), Pop (Cherry & Sweet red grapes), Blues (Blueberry & Red grapes.
Our Sweet grape tastings: Suite (white grape), Punk (Rose’) and Harmony (Red grape).
The Spiced Wine tastings: Tango (White Sangria with mint, citrus and lime ~ like a mojito. Fusion (Christmas in a glass~ Red grape, cloves, and orange peel).
Allegro Wine Shoppe also had a slushy machine for serving Wine Slushies. Jim and I did try a small taste of the slushy and we agreed the slushy was marvelous.
Since the slushy was not in a bottle and served in an open container, the drinks must be consumed on the property due to the open container law in PA.
We came home with bottles of Karaoke and Fusion. If my budget allowed, we would have purchased eight of the ten. The Fusion was a wine that you could drink at room temperature or heated.
I’ll confess, we heated the Fusion at the end of the day and enjoyed it by our campfire 🔥. As the night got cooler, the warmth of the fire and the delightful wine was very soothing.
The Allegro Winery originated back in 1973. Their business was not called Allegro back then it was just Bill Radomsky with a dream. He started planting a few acres of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. When these varieties did well he added Seyval Blanc.
In 1980, brothers and musicians, Tim and John Crouch purchased the vineyard. It took a few years to make it their own. The vineyard needed some tender loving care to get it back on track.
Tim and John produced their first wine batch in 1980. The vineyard continues to be a great vineyard! Allegro Winery had plans to expand the vineyard in 2016 to 16 acres. Allegro Winery stated, “The first wines from the new plantings should be available in 2019.”
The shoppe also had many wine accessories, souvenirs and gift items for purchase.
Jim and I had a great time at the Allegro Wine Shoppe in Strasburg, PA! We would definitely recommend this wine shop to anyone passing through Strasburg or in the Strasburg area. You can also visit their other locations in Brogue, PA, York, PA, and the Farmers Markets in PA.
