Enjoying The Beauty

I was so excited to finally get to go to Picturesque Massachusetts Bash Bish Falls. Bash Bish Falls has been on my list of day trips for a few years. It’s funny because when I said that to my husband (James) he said really, since when.

So when I saw a road trip of waterfalls in Massachusetts, I said let’s go. We visited many waterfalls on our road trip but this one was the one I was looking forward to the most.

Massachusetts Highest Single Drop Waterfall

Bash Bish Falls is the highest single-drop waterfall in Massachusetts. The falls are nearly 200 feet long, made up of a series of cascades. The final drop of the falls is an 80 foot drop and is split into twin waterfalls by a large boulder. This makes the falls look like an upside-down V.

Located In The Berkshires Of Massachusetts

Bash Bish Falls is located on the boarder of New York in Mount Washington, Massachusetts. It is well worth the visit if you are looking for a great waterfall. Beware of spotty cell service in the waterfall areas.

Pack or print a map for your travels. I was shocked how many waterfall areas had no cell service. Never mind relying on it for GPS but in an emergency, that is a big problem.

Free Parking

The upper parking lot is in Massachusetts and the lower parking lot is in New York, both are free. At the top parking to there is a scenic lookout called the “Summit”. The summit is a steep rock climb albeit short with a beautiful vista for a reward. Resulting in a clear view across Massachusetts and into New York State.

A Picturesque View

There is a railing around the top of the summit to help prevent falls. As beautiful as the summit is there has been fatalities at the lookout and at the waterfall.

One of the best ways to experience the beauty of the falls is a hike. Start at the Upper Falls parking lot for a steep climb down along the falls, just remember what goes down must go back up. It is about a 1/3 mile hike one way.

If you want to hike in from the lower parking lot trail it is about a 2/3 mile gradual uphill walk to the base of Bash Bish Falls.

Bash Bish Falls is a great place for a hike and enjoy a picnic on the rocks. You can also explore the neighboring wilderness at Mt. Washington State Park, or cross the border into New York’s Taconic State Park.
