5 Useful Beginner Wildlife Photography Tips

Lets get started and take a look at 5 Useful Beginner Wildlife Photography Tips.  Have you ever had that special moment when you have come across wildlife that has intrigued you? There is truly something special when it comes to experiencing what the natural world has to offer, especially when it involves a short period of time with any wildlife!

There are many talented wildlife photographers who provide an awe factor with their followers.  These photographers seem to have a consistency about their approach when taking wildlife pictures.  There are some easy guidelines for beginners to follow to create their own beautiful photography.

Useful and Helpful Wildlife Photography Tips

Here are a few things to remember for a safe, productive, and exciting wildlife photography experience.

1- Research and planning

Traveling is one of the tasks that needs an incredible amount of planning and research.  I usually check out the best places to photograph the wildlife and the best time of the day.

The preparation will help you put your mind at ease and you will be able to focus on taking those Wildlife Kodak moments.  This first step is critical to ensure you have a successful wildlife photography experience.

2- Pack the right photography gear

Make sure you are bringing the right camera equipment during your wildlife experience.  You may decide to bring one camera or more cameras with a long telephoto lens.  Are you planning on getting a close-up experience with the wildlife?  If so, you may want to bring a camera with a smaller focal length.  I currently use a Canon PowerShot SX530HS for all of my photography.

In selecting the right photography gear, you can see when and where are important factors when deciding what gear to pack for a successful photographing wildlife experience.

Always Think Safety First

3- Safety first

When taking wildlife photography, you must always remember safety first.  Whether you are taking photographs while hiking or at a national park you must remember wild animals are unpredictable.  Always remember you are in the wildlife’ s space and you must always be respectful of that!

Whenever possible it is best to travel in a group or at least with one other person.  There is definitely security in numbers, remember this could turn out to work to your advantage!

Research and get advise from experts who have taken the journey before you.  You should never hike in a nesting or denning area.

4- Practice and Patience is a virtue.

When taking wildlife photography you need practice and even more patience.  You could spend several hours waiting for that perfect picture.  The weather could also be a factor- cold temperatures, snow, rain, and even wind could potentially be factors.  Whatever the case may be you must remain patient for that perfect photograph.

Practicing could be challenging depending on your location.  You may want to go for a hike, kayak, and to the local farm or zoo to practice taking pictures with your camera.  You also could simply take pictures around your home and practice with the different camera settings.

Cherish The Amazing Nature Moments

5- Take the time to enjoy your photographs beyond the camera

We would all like to take that perfect photograph, would we not? When vacationing, I am just as happy to see the wildlife through my own eyes as well so I can keep a fair balance of being physically and emotionally with my family.

In the past, before my photography days, I remember driving down to the end of the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, Newburyport, MA with my family and seeing a deer on the side of the road.  I remember slowing down and stopping the car to enjoy the moment with my own eyes.

Another time, Nancy and I were kayaking on a Westminster lake when we observed an eagle land on a broken tree branch which was partially submerged under the water.  A beautiful sight to see.
